Over the course of this project I have been introduced to the concept of visual Language. These elements are like tools used any artistic piece. Here is a list of the types of visual language and what they entail. Value is the contrast between light and darkness. White is considered the brightest while black is considered the darkest. A shape can be summarised by there 2D appearance, the way a shape looks can be characterised by its appearances. A square can be strong, a circle can be nice and friendly and a triangle can be quick or menacing. Colour is made up of multiply lights. The effects of colour are made up of three different elements: hue, value and intensity. Hue is the selection of colour. Value is the contrast between light and darkness. The intensity is how bright the colours are. I've only just scratched the surface with the elements of colour. Lines help convey emotion, motion and features. Week Four This week we focused on 3D / architecture. We see 3D all of the time. From buildings ,statues, vehicles and people. Its one of the many art forms we see everyday. 3D objects and art is grounded in our life that we just accept it. We humans have many shelters over the years of living on Earth. They hold multiple purposes and are made been made stronger with each incarnation. This week was also the final set of visual language to research, from and texture. Form 3D object. It is the outer shape of art, object and person. A form can be very basic or very complex. It can give an object unique characteristic and have great personality. Texture is what the art is made from. It could be smooth, rough, soft, tough, dry or wet. The texture is very important for separating work from the rest. Week Three This week we work on film production. My understanding of film is many moving pictures that gives the illusion of moving. The earliest record of film was around the early 1890s, in which they were silent. They had rough editing and little to no story. We have come a long way since the with large cinematic marvels and endless entertainment. On Tuesday we put our ideas together. On Thursday we came up with a shot list. On Saturday we did filming and was able to save our work with everyone on the group. The only visual language this week was space. Space is the area in which the art occupies. In 2D art there would only be a width and length. If the art is 3D then there is depth to the picture, statue or film. Its up to the artist how much of space is being used, it could be the whole space or maybe just the centre. Week Two During week two we learnt about graphic design, or communication design, something I'm considering studying more. In my mind communication design is telling a story or statement though graphic design. Graphic design typically used for band logos, printed commercials and art. I prefer to do graphic design on the computer, mostly on Adobe Illustrator. The two visual elements I studied this week was lines and colours, both prime in ingredients in graphic design. Week One This is the first week of the Pale Blue Dot project and the first lesson was about photography. Photography is everywhere you look. It has became ingrained in our culture and people have turned it into a profession. We use it in our every day life from commercials, art, family outings and journalism. This weeks visual language were shape and value. A shape is a 2D object. Shape can help portray emotion though, well, shapes. The way a shape looks can be characterised by its appearances. Week Six I'll admit it when it comes to the brief, I followed it as closely as I could all because I was scared about failing the course. Due to the amount of time that I get during the week, I'am able to get a lot of work done during this time. In fear of failing this assignment I have read each week multiple times to make sure I wasn't missing any major information. I have hopefully followed the brief as closely as possible and I have also made sure to put everything in my scrapbook. One thing I can improve upon is to explain more and how I got to a concussion. From these six long weeks I can see how important the design process is. I understand and will use the design process in the future for all my projects. I can apply what I have learnt from the design process to show research and experiment. Discover: During this stage you'll want to do plenty of research both from your past experience and other peoples though primary and secondary research. There should also be brainstorms based on your main idea you want to focus on. Observing the place and asking questions is also a good way to get research. Define: At this point you have accumulated so much research that you can't focus on what is important. So its important to get feedback to decide on what to pursue. Its also very critical that you look back on the brief to make sure your doing as instructed. Develop: Once you have the right feedback and you have a clear point of view on what to do, you'll need to do some experiments and find a style that helps you explain your project.
